A stash of 3,500 kilos of hashish was intercepted at Cape Creus (Girona)

Joint operation of the Tax Agency and the Mossos d'Esquadra

  • Several vehicles intended for transport and more than 2,000 liters of fuel have been seized to supply the boat to return to its point of origin.

  • Proactive surveillance against drug trafficking and smuggling, and the rapid coordination of both bodies has been key to carrying out this unexpected operational action.

January 26, 2024.- Customs Surveillance officials from the Tax Agency and agents from the Mossos d'Esquadra intercepted on January 23 a shipment of hashish that had just occurred in a cove in the area of Cape Creus (Girona). As a result of police coordination and cooperation, 3,512 kilos of hashish have been seized, as well as two vans and two vehicles and 100 drums with more than 2,000 liters of fuel.

The operation was carried out on January 23 when one of the Customs Surveillance helicopters, within the framework of its functions of fighting and repressing drug trafficking and smuggling, detected a semi-rigid boat that was sailing towards Culip Cove, a small beach located in the north of Cap de Creus, little frequented at this time of year.

Aerial surveillance over the 'goma' and its navigation direction made it possible to verify that different vehicles and vans were parked in the area of influence of the cove, as well as the presence of a group of people who were in a waiting attitude.

Given the possibility that a drug landing was going to occur at this point on the coast, a joint operational action was coordinated between the two forces, for which numerous patrols were activated in order to carry out the corresponding investigations in this place.

Those investigated fled when they detected the police device, some on the boat, others across the field, leaving two vehicles and various personal belongings abandoned in their wake.

In the area, both bodies located an abandoned large van that had crashed while trying to leave the road that leads to this cove. Inside, several burlap bundles of different dimensions were detected. More bales were also located next to the ladders in the same cove, and about 100 drums with fuel on the beach to supply the boat transporting the drugs for its return to its point of origin.

The police officers maintained the device until the early hours of the morning to secure and remove the intercepted drugs, the abandoned vehicles and locate and arrest the alleged perpetrators of the events described.

Investigations continue to identify and arrest the perpetrators of the intercepted drug cache.

The investigators have brought the facts to the attention of the Investigating Court acting as guard in Figueres.
