International Day of Education spotlights the contribution made by education worldwide. Education for all is the CMA CGM Foundation's priority. It truly believes learning plays a crucial role in giving children the tools they need to help make the world a better place. Every day it works with partners on developing high-impact programs that can change the lives of children and young people.

Here's a round-up of some of the initiatives.

Local action to support young people with the challenges they face in their communities

In Marseille, the Foundation is particularly keen to support projects that take an innovative approach to achieving greater inclusiveness for young people through education and training, and combating dropouts from the school system.

  • Marseille Capitale de la Mer: In a coastal city where 60% of young people cannot swim when they start junior high school, the CMA CGM Foundation has lent support to the "Un pas vers la mer" program, teaching 150 children to swim.
  • NRSud: every year, in France, around 100,000 leave the school system, without any diplomas or training. To further inclusion efforts for young people in a sector with a bright future, the CMA CGM Foundation has provided support to the École de Production des Energies du Sud (NRSud), a new training school for the solar industry based in Marseille.
  • Le Phare: the social incubator was inaugurated in September 2021 and is playing host to seven new projects based in the Marseille region this year. The solutions developed through these projects, including digital approaches, aim to tackle issues such as students dropping out of education and employment for the most vulnerable.

An international presence empowering the education for all drive

The Foundation also backs outstanding projects focused on education and young people right around the globe.

  • In Côte d'Ivoire, the CMA CGM Foundation built a school in the Ellokro village in partnership with the Magic System Foundation. This school in a rural area close to Abidjan can teach 200 children every year. Nationwide, 1.6 million children are unable to attend school because of a lack of infrastructure in many cases.
  • In Lebanon, working alongside the Beit el Baraka non-profit, the Foundation handed out 9,500 packs of school-related materials in 40 schools and kitted out 10 schools with solar panels, benefiting 6,000 students.
