CEZ Esco energy saving projects save Kc393m in 2023

Prague, March 18 (CTK) - Comprehensive energy saving projects by Enesa, a company in the CEZ Esco group, saved clients Kc393m in energy costs last year, almost Kc100m more year-on-year, energy group CEZ spokesman Roman Gazdik told CTK today.

The company is the industry leader in the Czech Republic, with 60 percent of the market, according to Gazdik.

Energy performance contracting (EPC) includes the modernisation of equipment with the aim of reducing energy consumption, typically by replacing lighting with more efficient types. Clients are contractually guaranteed that their supplier will achieve the savings, otherwise the suppliers must pay the difference themselves.

Last year, Enesa operated a total of 34 savings projects in more than 500 buildings. The total saving were Kc28m over and above the contracted amounts, Gazdik said. In addition to the cost savings, they also include a reduction of 43,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

According to CEZ Esco head Kamil Cermak, the savings potential in the Czech Republic is much higher. "In total, the state could save up to Kc20bn a year through energy modernisation in public buildings," Cermak said.

The most frequent customers of EPC projects are cities, regions and their related organisations, according to CEZ. There is also a great potential for savings in industry.

Enesa has been implementing savings projects since 2006. "The total guaranteed savings in all projects so far exceeded Kc2bn last year," said the company's CEO Pavol Frano.

CEZ Esco is a subsidiary of CEZ. It focuses on services related to modern energy, decarbonisation and reducing the climate footprint for industrial customers, municipalities and institutions.
