The Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) Accredits Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital as a Center of Excellence in Adult Robotic Surgery

Several RWJUH, Rutgers RWJMS and Rutgers CINJ Affiliated Surgeons Recognized as Surgeons of Excellence in Robotic Surgery by the SRC

(New Brunswick, NJ) - Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital's (RWJUH) Adult Robotic Surgery Program has been accredited as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC). This accreditation recognizes the hospital for its commitment and high standard of delivery of quality patient care and safety.

Status as an accredited Center of Excellence means that RWJUH has met nationally and internationally recognized standards.

In addition to the program designation, several RWJUH, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey-affiliated surgeons have been named Surgeons of Excellence in Robotic Surgery by the SRC. They are:

"Our patients benefit from the latest in robotic technology, expertise, and our commitment to excellent patient care. The RWJUH robotic fleet includes the latest generation Intuitive da Vinci robotic systems Xi, and SP," says Sammy Elsamra, MD, Director of Robotic Surgical Services at RWJUH (add his RWJMS title too). "These platforms add to the benefit of wristed instruments and stable 3-dimensional visualization of prior generations of robotic systems by incorporating increased maneuverability, enhanced imaging technologies, and advanced energy options. Further the SP platform allows for complex surgeries to be done through a single small incision that can often be hidden in the belly button."

The expert surgeons at RWJUH, RWJMS and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey treat more than 1,200 patients each year across a broad range of disciplines including ear, nose and throat; thoracic, cardiac, general surgery, bariatric, urologic, gynecologic, and colorectal surgery. The team also offers expertise in cancer care with surgical oncology, gynecological oncology, and urologic oncology capabilities.

Health care facilities and surgeons seeking an SRC accreditation undergo an extensive assessment and inspection process to ensure the applicant meets SRC's proven standards and requirements. These requirements include surgical volumes, facility equipment, clinical pathways and standardized operating procedures, an emphasis on patient education and continuous quality assessment. Inspectors educate staff in the accredited departments on best practices to help an organization improve its care and services.

"We're proud to recognize RWJUH for its commitment to advancing and providing quality care for all patients," said Gary M. Pratt, CEO of SRC. "This accreditation signals that this facility is among the best in this specialty and is dedicated to delivering the highest level of care possible."
