National Cycle Network Route 1 improvements completed at Elliot Links

Published on Tuesday 16 April 2024

A recently completed phase of path works at Elliot Links connects with adjacent resurfacing works and improves a 200-metre stretch to the Balcathie level crossing.

The Elliot Links project was funded by the Scottish Government and designed and delivered through partnership between Angus Council and Sustrans. The project is part of Sustrans' wider work to improve and expand the National Cycle Network across Scotland making it easier for more people to walk, wheel and cycle for their everyday journeys.

It upgrades what was a gravel track and progresses the work to provide a sealed surface from Arbroath to Easthaven, which will make the route more accessible for those who use it.

A covered cycle shelter is also proposed at the boardwalk access point to the beach. This will allow individuals to safely secure their bike when exploring the surrounding area.

Further improvements have been recommended in a study that looked at the route between Arbroath and Easthaven. Subject to funding, it is anticipated that these will be progressed later this year.
