Cuckfield home recognised by Ofsted for its ‘effective services’ to children and young people

Orchard House in Cuckfield has been given an overall rating of 'Good' by Ofsted following a two-day inspection on 28 February and 1 March 2023. The children's home run by West Sussex County Council has been praised for the good work of their staff and the growth children are experiencing, particularly on their independence and decision-making. The newly published Ofsted report found that:

· Children are encouraged to express their views and make clear choices

· Children are involved in making decisions about their home, ensuring that their voice is heard

· Children are supported by committed and trusted staff

· The progress of children is recognised and valued

· Staff are proactive in safeguarding children and promoting children's health and emotional well-being

· The effectiveness of leaders and managers are good

Councillor Jacquie Russell, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "I would like to extend my congratulations and thanks to staff at Orchard House for their work and clear commitment to children and young people. It is because of their amazing work that we can foster such a supportive environment. "We are dedicated to ensuring children and young people in West Sussex are provided with the appropriate care, helping them reach their potential whilst keeping them safe from vulnerable situations. These are our top priorities in the council, and we are taking action to address the improvements identified. Orchard House provides a range of services to support children and families including short breaks and long-term care.
