Rep. Sewell Visits FEMA Vaccination Site in Bessemer to Encourage Constituents to Get Vaccinated

Bessemer, AL - Today, U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) visited the FEMA Community Vaccination Center site in Bessemer, Alabama to encourage residents to get vaccinated. Rep. Sewell visited the site as part of the Congressional Black Caucus' Get Out the Vaccine (GOTV) Week, a public awareness, education, and outreach program occurring in Congressional districts across the country.

'Today I was thrilled to participate in the Congressional Black Caucus' Get Out the Vaccine Week by visiting the FEMA Community Vaccination Center in Bessemer,' said Rep. Sewell. 'This partnership between the FEMA, the state of Alabama, and Jefferson County is a testament to what can be achieved when we all work together. Getting shots in arms is how we save lives and finally put this pandemic behind us.'

'I understand why so many have concerns about getting vaccinated given the legacy of distrust created by the federal government,' continued Sewell. 'But I know this for a fact. The vaccine has been rigorously tested. It is safe, it is effective, and it will protect you, your loved ones, and our whole community. Don't wait, vaccinate!'

Background on the FEMA Community Vaccination Center in Bessemer, AL:

In April, FEMA partnered with the state of Alabama and Jefferson County to establish a Community Vaccination Center at the Watermark Place in Bessemer, Alabama. The site opened on April 21, 2021 and provides up to 7,000 vaccinations per week. Members of the Alabama National Guard are assisting with the administration of vaccines.

Currently, all individuals age 16 and over are eligible for a vaccine. The site offers drive-thru vaccinations and can accommodate walk-ins. Residents can schedule an appointment by visiting myturn.timetap.com or by calling 205-858-2221.
