Stockland has today started construction on the fourth and final stage of its Willawong Distribution Centre, located in Brisbane's southwest corridor around 20 kilometres from the CBD, which will provide more than 46,000 square metres of additional logistics and flexible warehousing space to meet the needs of the fast-growing region.

Once complete, Willawong Distribution Centre will be Stockland's largest logistics facility in Queensland. At 100,000 square metres, the prime logistics space is equivalent to more than 13 rugby league fields spread across 20 hectares, which is 1.25 times the size of Brisbane's South Bank Parklands.

Joining the Stockland team at today's sod turn was the Hon. Leeanne Enoch, State Member for Algester; Mark Hendry, Chief Executive Officer of CIP Constructions; and Tamalia Coolwell and David Conlon of the Yuggera Ugarapul and Jagera People, who conducted a Welcome to Country with the Nunukul Yuggera Aboriginal Dance Company.

Stockland Executive General Manager, Logistics, Tony D'Addona said Willawong Distribution Centre is a quality logistics centre strategically located to meet demand for parcels, products, goods and services in the growing region.

"Willawong Distribution Centre is a prime example of how location is key in the logistics sector. It is centrally located within the Brisbane South Industrial Precinct, midway between the Logan Motorway to the south, and the Acacia Ridge intermodal freight terminal to the north," Mr D'Addona said.

"This location provides excellent connectivity to local and regional markets through direct access to all major arterial roads, employment hubs, and key destinations like Brisbane Airport and the Port of Brisbane, meaning consumers receive their goods faster.

"We want our logistics facilities to meet the needs of our customers now and into the future. The five flexible tenancies built in this final stage will start from 5,000 square metres and are easily modifiable - from the internal configuration to the number of doors we build as standard - so our customers can grow and adapt as their needs change," Mr D'Addona added.

Member for Algester, the Hon. Leeanne Enoch welcomed the start of construction on the final stage.

"More and more people are calling Queensland home, super-charging the state's economy as Australia's fastest growing with good jobs and opportunities to enjoy the great lifestyle we're famous for around the world," Ms Enoch said.

"This final stage of Stockland's strategically located Willawong Distribution Centre is an investment in the fast and reliable freight Queensland's decentralised population relies on, while supporting construction and ongoing logistics jobs close to where families live."

The final stage of Willawong Distribution Centre will target 5 Star Green Star Design and As Built ratings and include features like five 99 kilowatt (kW) photovoltaic solar systems, optimum use of natural daylight inside warehouses, energy-efficient LED lighting, and water and energy metering systems, to help customers reduce their occupancy costs and provide improved environmental quality to support employee wellbeing.

The five buildings of the first three stages of Willawong Distribution Centre are complete and fully tenanted by companies covering logistics, materials for new housing construction and healthcare, comprising around 57,000 square metres of space.

Stockland is working with CIP Constructions to build the final stage, which is expected to be complete by the end of 2024.

The Willawong Distribution Centre is located at 261-269 Gooderham Road, Willawong, Queensland.
