CoR rapporteur Mark Speich and EP co/rapporteur Sven Simon discuss reforms for better regulation and a review of EU treaties

​​On 30 January 2024, in the context of his own-initiative CoR opinion on "Active subsidiarity: a fundamental principle in the EU better regulation agenda ", CoR rapporteur Mark Speich discussed reforms for better regulation and a review of EU treaties with MEP Sven Simon, EP co-rapporteur on the amendment of the Treaties.

Considering the incoming new institutional mandate, it is of utmost importance to ensure that local and regional authorities and the CoR are at the forefront of innovative proposals to ensure more effective decision-making and policy delivery. Therefore, this opinion aims to provide advice on the reforms needed to better implement the active subsidiarity principle during the EU legislative cycle to guarantee that the administration closest to the citizens is heard in the EU multilevel governance system.

The CoR opinion will be submitted to CIVEX members for adoption on 10 April 2024 and to the CoR plenary on 18-19 June 2024.​
