Multi-county beef and forage workshop will be on May 10 in Stockdale

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service offices in Atascosa, Bexar, Guadalupe and Wilson counties will host a beef and forage workshop on May 10 in Stockdale.

The event will be from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Kosciusko Community Hall, 7975 Farm-to-Market Road 541 East. Registration cost is $25 and can be paid at the door. Cash or check will be accepted, and checks can be made payable to Wilson Ag Education Fund.

Preregistration is recommended and can be done by calling the AgriLife Extension office in Atascosa County at 830-569-0034, Bexar County at 210-631-0400, Guadalupe County at 830-303-3889 or Wilson County at 830-393-7357.

There will be two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units available - one general and one integrated pest management - for private pesticide applicator license holders. A lunch will be provided.

Beef and Forage workshop agenda

The speakers and topics for the workshop include:

  • Brush management options and equipment demonstration - Megan Clayton, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension range specialist and professor in the Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, Uvalde.
  • Nutritional requirements of the cowherd - Karl Harborth, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension livestock specialist and professor in the Department of Animal Science, Corpus Christi.
  • Capturing rainfall and efficient utilization - Kason Haby, land management consultant, Heritage Land Stewards, Hondo.
  • Maximizing forage and grazing production - Josh McGinty, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension agronomist and associate professor in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Corpus Christi.
  • Lyssy Beefmaster tour - Lauren and Alyssa Lyssy, owners, Lyssy Beefmasters, Stockdale.
