Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week

WHEREAS, pretrial services, probation, and parole officers are an essential part of the justice system; and

WHEREAS, pretrial services, probation, and parole officers maintain a system for individuals to be supervised in their communities while on pretrial supervision, probation, or parole, including after release from incarceration to community supervision; and

WHEREAS, pretrial services, probation, and parole officers uphold the law with dignity, while recognizing the right of the public to be safeguarded from criminal activity; and

WHEREAS, pretrial services, probation, and parole officers assist judicial officers with setting and reconsidering bail decisions to assure public safety and court appearance; and

WHEREAS, pretrial, probation, and parole services officers are highly trained professionals who strive to create long-lasting public safety and have greatly contributed to Virginia's low recidivism rate; and

WHEREAS, pretrial services, probation, and parole officers play a critical role in the criminal justice system and partner with numerous stakeholders to ensure that supervised individuals become law-abiding citizens facilitating employment assistance, educational opportunities, and targeted treatment and intervention services;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Glenn Youngkin, do hereby recognize July 16-22, 2023, as PRETRIAL, PROBATION, AND PAROLE SUPERVISION WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
