FUSD Board of Education Provides Update on Superintendent Transition

Fresno Unified Board President Susan Wittrup has issued the following statement regarding the search for a new Superintendent:

As Fresno Unified prepares for a transition in leadership, I want to take this opportunity to share the initial steps we are taking to shape the search for a new Superintendent. As Trustees, one of our most critical tasks is to recruit, retain, and ensure that the next Superintendent is leading the district in the best service to our students' education.

First, at the direction of the entire membership of the Fresno Unified School Board of Trustees, a Superintendent Search subcommittee has been formed to guide and lead the search process. The members of this subcommittee include myself, Board Clerk Valerie Davis, and Trustee Veva Islas.

Second, we recently concluded eight different listening sessions across all corners of the district to hear directly from you, our community, on the qualities and characteristics you wish to see in our next Superintendent along with your insights on the vision, goals, and direction that ought to be a focus of the next Superintendent.

For Fresno families who were unable to attend the sessions, you are invited to provide your feedback via online survey at www.fresnounified.org.

The feedback generated from these listening sessions and surveys will be shared with members of the Board and the Superintendent Search Subcommittee in early March to help guide the next steps in the search process.

The Fresno Unified Board of Education has retained the expertise of Leadership Associates, the state of California's pre-eminent executive search and leadership development firm, to assist in all phases of the process of recruiting and retaining a new Superintendent.

We are very interested in hearing directly from you, our constituents, about your perspectives on the leadership of our district and the trajectory of our schools.
