DeLauro, DelBene, Torres Statement on Announcement that Monthly Child Tax Credit Payments Will Begin July 15

Leaders on CTC Applaud Creation of Two Online Portals to Help Americans Receive Payments

WASHINGTON - U.S. Representatives Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03), Suzan DelBene (D-WA-01), and Ritchie Torres (D-NY-15) released a statement on the Biden-Harris Administration's announcement that the Child Tax Credit (CTC) payments will be distributed monthly to parents starting July 15, 2021:

'Today, the Biden-Harris Administration has taken a critical step to ensure our communities see the intended benefits of the American Rescue Plan, specifically the expanded and improved Child Tax Credit. With the first monthly payments expected to hit bank accounts on July 15, this policy will be transformational for middle class, working, and poor families.

'Additionally, while 88 percent of children in the United States will automatically receive the monthly CTC payment, we welcome the creation of two separate online portals: one to help those who do not traditionally file income taxes, primarily because they do not earn enough, and the other to allow families to update their family size, income, and bank account information.

'We will continue working to ensure the IRS has the resources it needs to get these funds to all parents who qualify. Additionally, these monthly payments cannot simply stop after one year or five years. We remain committed to making the expanded and improved Child Tax Credit permanent in the American Families Plan.'

The Child Tax Credit was expanded and improved in the American Rescue Plan based on key provisions from the American Family Act.
