Utility upgrades on Kamehameha Hwy. in Kahuku & Laie to impact traffic Tuesday-Thursday, July 25-27

HONOLULU, July 19, 2023 - Hawaiian Electric crews will be upgrading overhead power lines in Kahuku and Laie, closing a section of the mauka or makai lane of Kamehameha Highway starting Tuesday, July 25, through Thursday, July 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Traffic will be contraflowed in the open lane and parking restricted in the work zone. Details of the lane closures are as follows:

Kahuku:

  • Tuesday, July 25 - The mauka lane of Kamehameha Hwy. will be closed between Puuluana Street near Kahuku High and Intermediate School and Enos Road, past the Kahuku Police Station.
  • Wednesday, July 26 - The mauka lane of Kamehameha Hwy. will be closed from just north of Puuluana Street to just after the Kahuku Public Library.

Laie:

  • Thursday, July 27 - The makai lane of Kamehameha Hwy. will be closed from just south of Hale Laa Boulevard to Kulanui Street.

Special duty police and flagmen will provide traffic control. Traffic cones and safety signs will mark the work zone. Motorists should anticipate delays and plan accordingly.

The work is part of a system reliability project on Oahu's North Shore.
