MURDER INVESTIGATION AND ARREST – 3100 BLOCK OF WEST SPRING STREET

On Aug. 5, 2022, at approximately 3:22 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of West Spring Street regarding a report of a shooting, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers located an unconscious male adult victim inside a residence suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper and lower body. Responding officers rendered aid to the victim until personnel from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Through their preliminary investigation, patrol officers discovered information indicating the suspect was inside a nearby residence. Officers immediately established a perimeter around the residence and requested the assistance of the Long Beach Police Department's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team. While SWAT personnel were on scene, officers received additional information that the subject involved in the shooting was outside the perimeter and was going to turn himself in at the police station.

At approximately 6:13 p.m., a 16-year-old male surrendered into police custody at the LBPD Public Safety Building located at 400. West Broadway. He was subsequently booked into the Long Beach City Jail for one count of murder and bail was set at no-bail.

At this time, the motive for the incident remains under investigation. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office early next week.

The victim has been identified Louis Longeno, a 19-year-old resident of the City of Maywood.
