City releases housing, homelessness progress report

The City of Eugene secured state funding for 228 emergency shelter spaces and gained 70 Affordable Housing units, two major highlights in the Housing Implementation Pipeline's six-month update released in April.

The HIP is the City's coordinated work plan to increase all types of housing and reduce homelessness. Staff release an update on achievements and challenges toward the HIP's goals, every six months. The update for the period of July 1 through December 31, 2023 is available online.

The gains in Affordable Housing came with the opening of Peace Village Co-op on River Road in December 2023. The SquareOne Villages project provides 70 homes for ownership by households earning no more than 60 percent area median income. Peace Village received $670,000 in Affordable Housing Trust Funds and $547,901 in City fee assistance to pay for building permits and system development charges.

The Housing Implementation Pipeline is the City's broad effort toward Strategic Plan goals to stabilize the cost of housing and mitigate impacts of homelessness.
