ESU Frederick Douglass Institute Speaker Series Welcomes Dr. Rajmohan Gandhi

East Stroudsburg University will welcome Dr. Rajmohan Gandhi as the first speaker in ESU's Frederick Douglass Institute Speaker Series on Tuesday, April 4 at 4 p.m. via zoom webinar. The event is open to the public at no cost.

Dr. Gandhi, the grandson of Mohandas K. Gandhi or Mahatma Gandhi, is a historian and biographer involved in efforts of trust-building and reconciliation. He has authored more than a dozen books, including the biography of his grandfather for which he received the Indian History Congress's Biennial Award in 2007. He served as a research professor at the College of Education, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and from 1997-2012 and was part of the university's Center for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. Through writing, speaking, public interventions, and dialogues, he has been engaged for 60 years in efforts for reconciliation and democratic rights.

Laura Kieselbach, Ed.D, assistant professor of English and director of ESU's Frederick Douglass Institute, says that the speaker series is an opportunity for the community to engage with invited guests. "We set this up as a Q&A so the audience can really engage with Dr. Gandhi," Dr. Kieselbach said. "We want them to ask questions about any topic of interest but specifically matters of freedom, reconciliation, democratic rights, and the divide between the West and the World of Islam."
