Health Department launches new interactive dashboard to monitor local opioid statistics

Whitby, Ontario - Durham Region Health Department has developed a new interactive dashboard to monitor local opioid-related statistics and issues. This new dashboard, known as the Durham Region Opioid Information System (DROIS), will replace the previous online monitoring resource of the same name and will continue to be located on durham.ca.

This new dashboard provides timely information on local opioid overdose-related statistics including, Region of Durham Paramedic Services (RDPS) response calls, emergency department (ED) visits and opioid-related deaths. The collection and monitoring of information related to local opioid concerns are crucial in working to address opioid-related drug toxicity overdoses and deaths. A key benefit of the dashboard is that it provides health and social service providers with local, up to date information they can use for service planning.

"The new DROIS interactive dashboard focuses on time trends by presenting all opioid-related data together in a single visual and allows users to explore the data by week, month, or year," explains Katie Bradley, an epidemiologist at the Health Department. "A key highlight of the dashboard is the moving averages that were added to the weekly data to help provide context to overall trends. Plans are also in the works to expand the dashboard in subsequent phases, with additional information that will be of importance to both local service providers and the community."
