Washington, DC - Today, Congresswoman Janelle Bynum (OR-05) attended President Trump's Joint Address to Congress. She was joined by Liz Crandall, a former Field Rangeron the Deschutes National Forest who was fired by DOGE's recent purge of federal workers.
Rep. Bynum released the following statement after the speech:
"Tonight, I went into Trump's speech hoping to hear a plan to lower costs, create better jobs, and improve our quality of life. It was important to me to show up, listen, and stand up for the people of Oregon. And I stayed through the end to hold the President accountable to all of us - because I don't leave Oregonians behind. I was looking for disruption to the status quo, not Trump's vision of destruction.
"Unfortunately, I left his speech without that promise. Instead, his focus was on making the rich richer and leaving our families behind. He didn't commit to protect Medicaid and Social Security from devastating cuts, and doubled down on the work of Elon Musk and DOGE. My guest, a former field ranger who protected Central Oregon against wildfires, was a victim of DOGE's cuts, as was our communities' public safety. That doesn't help anyone.
"It's time we embrace a disruption to the status quo, reject Trump's destruction, and put the American people first. Tonight, they were listening - and it's a shame they weren't the focus."
