A-7 Drug Control Unit Recovered a Firearm and Drugs

At about 7:48 PM, on Friday, May 3, 2024, members of the Drug Control Unit of District A-7 (East Boston) arrested Adrian Salmoran, 22, of Revere, and Kevin Cartagena, 19 of Winthrop, on firearm and drug charges.

Officers were conducting an ongoing drug investigation in the area of Bayswater Street and Shawsheen Road. Officers observed a motor vehicle idling, and a male exited an apartment in the area of 85 St. Andrew Road. The male approached the vehicle, and entered the rear passenger side door. The male was in the vehicle for approximately one minute before returning back to his apartment. About a minute later, the male jogged out of the apartment towards the vehicle, opened the door and grabbed an unknown item before jogging back to his apartment.

At this time, officers believed that a street level drug transaction had occurred, and observed the motor vehicle leave the area. Officers requested the assistance of a marked cruiser to conduct a traffic stop. Officers were able to stop the vehicle in the area of 3 Almont Street.

Officers advised the two occupants of the reason for the stop, and requested them to exit the vehicle. Officers conducted a pat frisk of one of the individuals' backpacks, and recovered a box of ammunition. As officers were placing the suspects into handcuffs, one of the suspects raised his arms, and officers immediately observed the handle of a firearm in his waistband.

Officers recovered from inside the vehicle, approximately $3,079 in US currency, about 67 various cannabis packages, and a box of ammunition containing twenty-three rounds.

The firearm was later determined to be a Glock 19 with one round in the chamber and fifteen rounds in the magazine. The firearm was also equipped with a laser sight attachment.

Salmoran was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, defacement of a firearm serial number, possession with intent to distribute class C, and possession with intent to distribute class D.

Cartagena was placed under arrest and charged with possession with intent to distribute class D.

Both are expected to be arraigned in East Boston District Court.
