BMI Indie Spotlight: Kimbra

Kimbra is a New Zealand-born pop star and two-time GRAMMY-winning tour de force who released her debut album, Vows, in 2011. She was named Best Female Artist two years in a row at the ARIA Music Awards and took home an impressive five New Zealand Tui Awards in 2012. That same year, she exploded into public consciousness with her Gotye duet, "Somebody That I Used to Know," which earned her two GRAMMYs: one for Record of the Year and another for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. The single went on to sell more than 13 million copies worldwide. In 2014, her sophomore record, The Golden Echo, was released, followed by her third project, Primal Heart, in 2018. Kimbra is now readying her fourth LP, A Reckoning, produced alongside Son Lux's Ryan Lott and featuring brand-new singles "Save Me" and "Replay." The sound of A Reckoning will channel heartbreak amidst a global pandemic into a new sonic territory, and Kimbra's hope for the new album is that it will allow listeners to find both catharsis and connection.
