Dallas ISD News Briefing: June 27

DALLAS - Dallas ISD will be closed from Monday, July 4, through Friday, July 8. Central offices will resume regular summer business hours Monday, July 11.

To ensure that all students have access to nutritious food during the summer break, some schools will continue to provide free meals for children younger than 18 and students up to 21 years old with disabilities.

Student to be featured in the Country Music Hall of Fame's event
Joseyline Umana, a rising eighth grader at L.V. Stockard Middle School, is one of just 11 students selected from a global pool whose song, "The Pressure She Carries," will be featured at the Country Music Hall of Fame 43rd annual Words & Music Night at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 12. Through Words & Music, students interact with a professional songwriter, Umana was able to work with professional Nashville songwriter Anne Buckle in an engaging performance workshop that transformed her lyrics into a finished song.

Transportation Services will host a job fair tomorrow
All motivated drivers are invited to join the Transportation Services job fair at 5 p.m., tomorrow, Tuesday, June 28. The event will be located at 5151 Samuell Blvd.Transportation Services staff will be available on site to assist with applications.

Dallas ISD to host a bid preview networking event for open bond projects
The district's Construction Services and Minority & Women Enterprise (M/WBE) Department invites contractors and sub-contractors from across North Texas to learn more about 70 upcoming bond projects at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 29, at L.G. Pinkston High School. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with architects and management firms, learn about the district's procurement processes and the 15 new replacement schools funded by Bond 2020. Dallas ISD remains committed to maximizing participation of minority and women-owned businesses in all phases of the district's purchasing and contracting activities.

250 Dallas ISD employees earn Mindfulness Coach Certification
Approximately 250 Dallas ISD staff members earned a Mindfulness Coach Certification from the district's Social and Emotional Learning department. As part of their training, participants learned how to practice self-awareness and self-management. Now, these leaders will be able to broaden the reach of this practice by conducting districtwide trainings and small-group support for staff and students on how to reset, refocus, and prepare for learning.
