House Republicans Caught Trying To Make Public Forget They Tried To Defund The Police

House Republicans spent National Police Work week feverishly trying to cover up their attempts to defund local and federal law enforcement. Instead, they got called out for their efforts to cut funding for the COPS program that delivers critical support to local police departments.

As reported by Huffpost, "the proposed cut suggests Republican support for state and local law enforcement is mostly a cultural affinity and political wedge issue that doesn't trump their general dislike of government."

When asked about their efforts to defund law enforcement, Speaker Johnson even tried to pretend that he didn't know the details of massive cuts to law enforcement in the budget that he previously helped draft and advocated for when he was the Chair of the Republican Study Committee.
