Washington, DC - House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul (R-TX), U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-ID), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), ranking member of the Senate Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women's Issues, and U.S. Representative Mark Green (R-TN), ranking member of the House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, Civilian Security, Migration and International Economic Policy, today released the following statement on the decision of El Salvador's Legislative Assembly to dismiss five supreme court justices and the attorney general:

'We are deeply concerned about the process through which the Salvadoran National Assembly has replaced the attorney general and the members of the Constitutional Court in El Salvador. Gratuitous actions that undermine the independence of the judiciary negatively impact our longstanding partnership to improve transparency, security, and economic conditions in that nation. The Biden Administration must engage with all political actors in El Salvador in order to have a productive dialogue that strengthens the nation's democratic institutions and transparent governance.'
