Lee University will host an art exhibition featuring a collection of works from Ronit Joy Holtz, titled "Jars in Heaven." The exhibition will be on display starting Feb. 18 through March 18. The opening reception, including an artist talk and Q&A, will be on March 4 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Squires Library Fine Art Gallery.
"It is an honor for us to host this exhibition for Ronit," said Victoria Phillips, visiting assistant professor of art at Lee. "Truly, her work goes beyond tangible qualities, offering a visceral experience for her viewers, and we are thrilled to invite the community to the opening reception, artist talk, and exhibition!"
Holtz, who currently resides in Tel Aviv, Israel, is a painter and installation artist from a crossroad between Atlanta, Georgia, and Kadima, Israel. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Holtz creates sculptural paintings with an array of mixed media. Engaging with a variety of mediums, she uses fibers, wax, leather, salt, soil, sand, and much more to create raised layers, adding depth to her pieces. Her work has been featured in galleries and private collections in France, Switzerland, Australia, United States, and cities throughout Israel.
"Jars in Heaven" will present artwork in the form of mixed media and includes themes of grief and loss as well as the realities of living in a war-torn country.
"Through my artwork in this exhibition, I seek to illuminate the experiences of trauma to provide a space of healing, intention, and light," said Holtz. "The artwork speaks to comfort those who mourn, painting a path that we all have or will experience - the loss of family and friends and how to commemorate the light ahead. 'Jars in Heaven' is dedicated to the ones we love and the ones we miss."
A few of her pieces on display will be "A Candle Lit Forever For You," "As Fast as My Guardian Angel," and "The Oil of Joy for Mourning."
The exhibition is free and open to the public during regular operating hours of the library, which can be found by visiting leeuniversity.libguides.com/homepage. Squires Library is located on the corner of 11th Street and Paul Conn Parkway.
