Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania

WASHINGTON, April 23- This morning, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania.

President Malpass and President Hassan discussed the World Bank Group's (WBG) support for the people of Tanzania through IDA19 and IDA20 resources, including in the areas of agriculture, energy, and human capital.

President Malpass and President Hassan held positive talks on her government's efforts to improve conditions for the private sector in Tanzania and the IFC's support to manufacturing sector and public-private partnerships. President Malpass was also glad to hear President Hassan's thoughts regarding ongoing business regulatory reforms.

President Malpass thanked President Hassan for her commitment to closing Tanzania's gender gap and empowering women, and congratulated her on Tanzania's decision to provide equal access to education for pregnant girls and young mothers. President Malpass affirmed to President Hassan the WBG's strong support for further efforts on gender equality and women's empowerment.
