Binghamton University releases first-ever cologne: Eau de Binturong

The luxury higher-ed brand Binghamton University is entering the fragrance market with Eau de Binturong, the first-ever cologne offered within the SUNY system.

Eau de Binturong features the pleasing aroma of buttered popcorn, a reference to the distinct scent of the wild binturong a.k.a. bearcat. The mammals, native to South and Southeast Asia, are often described as smelling like buttered popcorn.

"We're excelling in academics, research, athletics - it's about time we got into the fragrance game," said President Harvey Stenger. "I've worn the cologne to several meetings already and have never felt more confident. I am always hungry for popcorn, though."

Binghamton is pleased to announce that Baxter Bearcat will serve as the official spokesperson for the fragrance. Baxter, being a mascot, can't talk, but he did provide a written statement.

"I'm proud to represent Binghamton in any way, and I'm pleased that the University has decided to embrace the powerful binturong in its first foray into high-end fragrances," wrote Baxter. "It doesn't hurt that I can drive sports cars and summer in Milan now. Umm, Go, Bearcats!"

The master perfumers behind Eau de Binturong describe it as a "premier aromatic fragrance." The cologne features powerful notes of bergamot, sandalwood and Orville Redenbacher.

Eau de Binturong is now available at the Bookstore and all major high-end department stores.

The cologne is the first in Binghamton's major BINGPARFUM line. Upcoming fragrances include Preserve, a woodsy scent reminiscent of the Nature Preserve; Florale, an ode to the greenhouse; and Spiedie, which…just smells like a spiedie sub.
