On 19-20 January, head of Polish diplomacy Zbigniew Rau took part in an annual informal Snow Meeting organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the US, France, the UK, Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Sweden, NATO and the EU, as well as experts from the realm of international politics and security specialists. The formal and informal talks offered an opportunity to discuss key issues of regional and transatlantic security, especially in the light of Russia's aggression against Ukraine. Minister Rau repeatedly stressed how important it is to urgently increase both volumes and quality of military and economic support for Ukraine. "Our efforts cannot rest on an assumption that Russia is weak and Ukraine has already won. This narrative is a false and harmful one," the minister emphasised.

Along with Minister Rau, also received at this year's Snow Meeting were, among others, Latvia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkēvičs and Sweden's deputy head of diplomacy Jan Knutsson. The head of Polish diplomacy spoke with his Latvian counterpart on the sidelines of the conference.

On the eve of the 160th anniversary of the outbreak of the January Uprising, Minister Rau laid a wreath in the chapel commemorating the insurgents at Rasos Cemetery. The chapel contains the remains of twenty participants in the uprising, including commanders Zygmunt Sierakowski and Konstanty Kalinowski. The remains had been unearthed during an archaeological research at Castle Hill in Vilnius in 2017, and an official funeral attended by the presidents of Poland and Lithuania had been held in 2019.
