Minister Grlić Radman meets with Croat community of New York

Minister Gordan Grlić Radman on Wednesday met with members of the Croat community of the Church of Sts. Cyril & Methodius, which brings together Croats from the states of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.

In his address, the minister said that the Croatian diaspora in the U.S. was one of the largest in the world, highly organized and active, and has done a lot for Croatia and continues to do so.

'The unity and solidarity shown during the Homeland War and the fight for international recognition was repeated after the last year's earthquakes in Zagreb and Banovina. The U.S. Croats and their associations gathered donations and helped the hospitals in the affected areas,' he said, expressing gratitude for the assistance.

Grlić Radman underscored that the Croatian government continued to work on strengthening the ties with expatriate communities, as demonstrated by amendments to the citizenship law, intensive talks on double taxation avoidance and efforts to include Croatia in the Visa Waiver Program.

The Croatian School Cardinal Stepinac in New York is an integral and important part of the parish, attended by the second and third generation of U.S. Croats.

The minister will also participate in the UN General Assembly on 20-23 September and hold bilateral talks with his counterparts from Europe and the rest of the world.
