Farm Store’s Tomatozania Sale Begins March 16

Cal Poly Pomona's eagerly awaited TomatozaniaTM featuring hundreds of tomato varieties for sale begins March 16,10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Cal Poly Pomona Farm Store.

Varieties range from the well-known Better Boy, Early Girl, Green Zebra and Cherokee Purple to the Abu Rawan, Blue Cream, Berries, Tie-Dye Pink, Hawaiian Pineapple, Brandywine, and many more. Tomatoes range from those perfect for large gardens to those that flourish in containers. There will even be micro tomato plants.

All the plants were propagated and grown by Cal Poly Pomona student employees studying plant science. Proceeds benefit the plant science program and the students.

The annual sale began in 1997, and its reputation has spread throughout the San Gabriel Valley and beyond. In 2023, approximately 1,600 gardeners purchased more than 6,000 plants during the weekend sale. Another 5,000 plants were sold in the weeks following.

More information on the tomato varieties that will be available will be posted on the nursery website.

In addition to the tomatoes, the nursery also will have a grand array of spring plants to jump start the home garden, including herbs, zucchini, squash, cucumbers, beans, lettuce, strawberries, dragon fruit and more.

Mark your calendars for Pepperzania staring April 13, featuring more than 140 varieties of peppers, and the Ultimate Pepper Event on June 8, which brings the heat with more than 60 varieties of super-hot peppers including some of the world's hottest - the Carolina Reaper. Also available will be Chocolate Champion and Apocalypse Scorpion.
