Kate McKnight Speaks on Redistricting at National Conference of State Legislators Seminar

On July 15, Partner Kate McKnight was among a panel of attorneys specializing in election law that offered astute analysis and practical guidance at a National Conference of State Legislators redistricting seminar in Salt Lake City, Utah. The topic drew 450 legislators, staff, redistricting commissioners and other stakeholders interested in hearing sound advice - including words of caution - on redistricting legislation and more from McKnight, John Yang of Asian Americans Advancing Justice, and Frank Strigari, chief legal counsel for the Ohio Senate.

McKnight's insights included observations about the current politically charged climate, warnings about the importance of 'email hygiene' and a reminder to legislators to build records based on solid analyses as they create redistricting maps. 'The record you develop matters,' said McKnight. 'It matters for every single district, and you're going to want to have that at the end of the redistricting process to make sure you can support why you drew districts the way you did.'
