GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. Purpose. This MARADMIN announces the results of the CY-23 United States Marine Corps FES Awards.
2. Background: The awards program recognizes the FES accomplishments from the preceding calendar year (01 January through 31 December 2023). This annual awards program recognizes combined FES and Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) Department of the Year, Expeditionary Firefighting Rescue (EFR) Department of the Year (Small, Medium, Large and EFR Categories), Fire Prevention Program of the Year, Military and Civilian Firefighter of the Year, Fire Officer of the Year, Fire Service Instructor of the Year, Executive Fire of the Year, and Emergency Medical Services Provider of the Year.
3. Nominations received from the Fleet Marine Force and MCICOM supporting establishments were considered, each nominee demonstrated a consistently high level of performance befitting of Marine Corps Fire Service.
4. Congratulations to the following Marines, Civilian Marines, Programs, and Departments on selection as the recipients of the 2023 Marine Corps FES Awards. Each category was highly competitive, indicating exceptional leadership and dedication to mission accomplishment for all nominees. Through both personal and professional examples, the selectees have set the standard for others to emulate in the conduct of their professional activities and career development goals. Their resourcefulness, initiative, and selfless dedication to duty reflected great credit upon themselves, the FES community and the Marine Corps.
5. 2023 Marine Corps FES Award Recipients:
5a. Large Fire Department of the Year Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
5b. Medium Fire Department of the Year Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni.
5c. Small Fire Department of the Year Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.
5d. Expeditionary Firefighting and Rescue Department of the Year MWSS 373.
5e. Fire Prevention Program of the Year Marine Corps Base Butler.
5f. Civilian Fire Officer of the Year Mr. Arthur Buonauro (MCB Camp Pendleton).
5g. Military Fire Officer of the Year Gunnery Sergeant David Waterfield, Jr. (MCAS Kaneohe Bay).
5h. Civilian Firefighter of the Year Mr. Kristopher Massie (MCB Camp Pendleton).
5i. Military Firefighter of the Year Corporal Yasmine Huleymorris (MCAS Iwakuni).
5j. Fire Service Instructor of the Year Mr. Steven Brower (MCRD Parris Island).
5k. Civilian Executive Fire Officer of the Year Mr. Jerry Bowling (MCB Camp Pendleton).
5l. Military Executive Fire Officer of the Year Master Sergeant Jerry Chapman III (MCAF Quantico).
5m. Emergency Medical Services Provider of the Year Mr. Kyle Silvia (MCB Camp Pendleton).
6. The Marines and Departments selected will be submitted to the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Energy, Installations, and Environment consideration for DOD FES Awards Program per reference A. DOD award winners will be announced via SEPCOR.
7. MCICOM G-3/5 will submit individual personnel awards for civilian and military winners. Citations and individual awards will be presented at the Installations and Logistics FES Management board meeting scheduled for June 2024.
