Thompson Presents $800,000 Check to American Canyon for Napa River Ecology Center

American Canyon -Today, Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-04) presented an $800,000 check to the City of American Canyon for the Napa River Ecology Center. Rep. Thompson secured this funding in the government funding bill that was signed into law on March 9, 2024.

"The Napa River Ecology Center will be a tremendous addition to our community in American Canyon. This center will be a gathering place for American Canyon where students, families, and visitors can learn about land stewardship and the importance of conserving public lands," said Thompson. "I am glad to have worked with American Canyon leaders to secure this funding in the government funding bill that President Biden signed into law. I look forward to seeing how this project will educate our community and conserve public lands."

"Congressman Thompson's support of the Napa River Ecology Center is a testament to his commitment to the environment and our community," said Janelle Sellick, Executive Director of American Canyon Community & Parks Foundation. "With this funding we are one step closer to breaking ground on this incredible regional asset that will serve thousands of people each year through environmental education, conservation, and wildlife programs. We are grateful for this extraordinary investment in youth, education, and the environment."

Rep. Thompson was joined by Mayor Leon Garcia of American Canyon, Vice Mayor David Oro, Executive Director of American Canyon Community and Parks Foundation Janelle Sellick, Board President Raffi Boloyan, Supervisor Belia Ramos, Councilmember Pierre Washington, and Councilmember Mark Joseph.

The Napa River Ecology Center project will repurpose an unused industrial building, bringing it up to code and making it ADA compliant, so that it can be used as a community education and program center. Once complete, the building will become the Napa River Ecology Center and will host community events for local families, after school programs in conjunction with the project's partner Napa Valley Unified School District, conservation programs, and citizen science.
