Get Your Shred On This Earth Day

We're thrilled to invite you to join us for a shredding event like no other! The City of Raleigh Solid Waste Services Department is proud to host a FREE shredding event as part of our city's Earth Day celebration. This eco-friendly extravaganza will take place at the beautiful Dorothea Dix Park in the Adams Lot on Friday, April 19, with shredders revving up from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. It's time to clear out those confidential documents and electronic clutter in the most environmentally responsible way possible!

Our mission is simple: to provide you with a secure and eco-conscious way to dispose of sensitive documents while also reducing waste and promoting recycling.

Details to Know

To ensure that everyone gets a fair chance to shred their stuff, we kindly request that each vehicle brings no more than three boxes (cardboard copy paper box or smaller) of documents. And don't worry about removing those binder clips, paper clips, or staples - the shredding machines can handle them like pros!

However, to keep our shredders running smoothly and efficiently, we do ask that you remove any of the following items before bringing them to the event:

  • three-ring binders;
  • disks;
  • CDs;
  • credit cards;
  • books;
  • magazines;
  • x-rays; or,
  • film.

These items can jam up the works, and we want to make sure your shredding experience is as hassle-free as possible. Oh, and one more thing: while we're all about recycling, we can't accept batteries at this event. Let's keep the sparks flying - but in a good way!

Easily Get In and Out

Now, let's talk logistics. We want to make sure everyone gets in and out of the shredding zone with ease, so here are a few instructions to keep in mind:

  • Follow traffic signs: Keep an eye out for our directional signs to guide you straight to the shredding zone. We've got your shredding journey mapped out!
  • Stay in your vehicle: Once you arrive, drivers, please remain in your vehicles while our dedicated staff unloads your shredding materials. Think of it as curbside service - but for shredding!

Also Accepting Household Electronics

But wait, there's more! We're not just shredding paper - we're also accepting household e-waste at this event. Got old gadgets gathering dust? Bring 'em along, and let's give them the send-off they deserve. It's all part of our commitment to keeping Raleigh clean, green, and environmentally friendly.

So, there you have it, Raleigh! Join us for an Earth Day celebration like no other at Dorothea Dix Park. Let's shred and recycle our way to a brighter, greener future together. See you there!
