The Rev. Dr. Jim Freeman, pastor of the Broadmoor Presbyterian Church in Shreveport, La., will be the guest speaker during the University of the Ozarks' Baccalaureate service at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 10, in Munger-Wilson Chapel.

The University's Baccalaureate service is a long-standing tradition at Ozarks on the day preceding the Spring Commencement ceremony. It is a faith-based celebration that honors that year's graduating class. The Senior Brick Ceremony will follow Baccalaureate.

Freeman has served as pastor of the Broadmoor Presbyterian Church since 2011. He graduated from Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas in 1983 with a B.A. in communications and political science. He received the master of divinity from Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Virginia in 1990 and was ordained by Arkansas Presbytery.

He has served congregations in Pine Bluff, Little Rock, and Searcy, Arkansas. In 2003, he was installed as moderator of Arkansas Presbytery at a meeting held on the University of the Ozarks campus. In 2015, Freeman received the Doctor of Ministry in the area of Gospel and Culture from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Ga. He has contributed material to The Arkansas Times and The Presbyterian Outlook, as well as the Feasting on the Word and Connections commentaries.

Among his hobbies are playwriting, and papermaking. He has two grown children, a daughter, Lindsay, and a son, William and is proud to claim Halle Bollman, Ozarks Class of 2024, among the extended family that he shares with his wife, the former Paulette VandenNieuwenhof, Ozarks class of 1980, whom he married in 2020.
