Today, freedom is not defended by bloody battles, but by words and worthy deeds, National Assembly President Rosen Zhelyazkov said at the National Fireworks Rally in Vratsa on the occasion of the 147th anniversary of the feat of Hristo Botev and his detachment. The President of Parliament accepted the formation of the representative units of the 10th Mechanized Battalion - Vratsa, students and schoolchildren and delivered a speech to the hundreds of attendees at the commemoration.

The questions whether we have forgotten how to defend the honour of the Motherland, whether we perceive the Motherland as a father's hearth, which is asked in her essay by the winner of the special prize of this year's National Competition "We Live in the Land of Botev" Maria Dobreva, in their rhetoric, make a reproach to us, the President of the National Assembly noted. In his words, this reproach can be overcome by recalling the forgotten debt. The debt, which is not only to the past, but the debt to the future, Rosen Zhelyazkov emphasized.

Tomorrow the mourning sirens will awaken in our hearts feelings of trembling, pride, awe and memory of people and events of which we are not contemporaries, but who have built our national identity, self-awareness, self-esteem, Rosen Zhelyazkov said. The words and deeds of Hristo Botev are not just inscribed in the heroic moments of his biography, they are inscribed in his poems and journalism, which are part of the culture of modern Europe, the President of Parliament emphasized. This is our pride, this is our comfort, and this is the lesson that we must pass on to generations, he added.

Let us remember and be worthy of the deeds of Botev, of our heroes who make us feel proud, let us be worthy Bulgarians, the President of the National Assembly called.

Members of the National Assembly, the Mayor of Vratsa Kalin Kamenov, the Metropolitan of Vratsa Grigory, the Minister of Defence Dimitar Stoyanov, the Regional Governor of Vratsa Georgi Mitov, municipal councillors, generals, officers, sergeants, soldiers, students, schoolchildren and many citizens attended the National Fireworks Rally in Vratsa on the occasion of the 147th anniversary of the feat of Hristo Botev and his detachment and bowed to the memory of the heroes.
