Celebrate arts and the outdoors in April at these Del Rio Trail events

The City of Sacramento's Office of Arts and Culture is inviting community members to celebrate spring with a series of arts-based workshops and events led by Del Rio Trail artists.

"As part of the Del Rio Trail construction process, the Office of Arts and Culture commissioned 27 artists to make artwork related to the trail and its surrounding community," said Jason Jong, the City's arts and creative economy manager. "These free events offer a unique opportunity for residents to connect with their surroundings, tap into their creativity, and build bonds within the community."

Celebrate arts and the outdoors at these upcoming events:

  • April 13, 2 - 5 p.m. (4408 Del Rio Rd)
Join artist Heather Hogan for a Community Print-a-thon. Select from pre-made rubber stamps or local leaves, apply ink, and print onto fabric patches. Take home your creation or contribute to a community quilt or flags.
  • April 27, 1 - 3 p.m. (35th Ave & 14th St)
Participate in a cyanotype workshop with artist Rosalva Willow. Learn the camera-less cyanotype process and gather natural elements along the trail for your prints.
  • April 20 and 28, (various times and locations)
Explore the rich tradition of fandango jarocho poetry in the two-part event "Taller de Versada en el Fandango." Originating from Veracruz, México, this participatory musical celebration features son jarocho music.

Sign up for these free events on the Del Rio Trail project website.

About the Del Rio Trail

The Del Rio Trail is a 4.8-mile multi-use path that runs through the Land Park, South Land Park, Freeport Manor, Z'Berg, Pocket and Meadowview neighborhoods. It allows people to access William Land Park, the Sacramento Zoo, schools, stores, restaurants, retail centers, jobs and other community parks without using a car.

The art project is funded from Clean California grants from the State of California.
