NYCLU on State Legislature Passage of Bill Protecting Access to Gender-Affirming Care

ALBANY - Today, the state legislature passed legislation S.2475-B (Hoylman-Sigal) / A.6046-B (Bronson), which would support access to gender-affirming care in New York. This includes preventing New York from cooperating in hostile states' retaliation against gender-affirming care providers, patients, family members, and those who support them.

In response, the New York Civil Liberties Union issued the following statement from Policy Counsel Allie Bohm:

"Supporting a young person on their journey is an act of love. By passing this critical bill, our legislature sends a clear message that New York will not participate in other states' attempts to stigmatize and punish gender affirming care providers, patients, family members, or those who support them.

"In the face of nationwide attacks on gender affirming care and transgender, gender-nonconforming, and nonbinary youth, we applaud the legislature for taking an essential step towards making our state a beacon for access to gender affirming care."
