Apr 25, 2024

  • Volkswagen has taken UX honors from Wards in seven of the last eight years

Reston, VA - Volkswagen of America, Inc. announced today that the 2024 Atlas Cross Sport was named to the Wards 10 Best Interiors & UX List 2024.

"There are a lot of midsize 2-row SUVs out there but the VW Atlas Cross Sport sets itself apart with a delightfully sleek and uncluttered interior that is roomy, comfortable and practical but also decidedly upscale," says Wards Judge Drew Winter of the $52,795 SEL Premium R-Line test vehicle.

Judge Jim Irwin adds, "The IQ.DRIVE® technology in the Atlas Cross Sport is one of the most comprehensive ADAS packages out there. This is a modern vehicle that delivers extraordinary value and rewards the driver - right down to the reminder not to step out without your cellphone."

"We are honored to receive this award from Wards," said Petar Danilovic, Senior Vice President, Product Marketing and Strategy, Volkswagen of America. "The Atlas family refresh for 2024 focused heavily on improving the interior-from style to comfort and convenience. This is proof that we got it right."

The annual Wards 10 Best Interiors & UX competition evaluates new or heavily redesigned vehicle interiors and user-experience technology, with scoring based on a variety of metrics including design and aesthetics, comfort, materials, fit-and-finish, connectivity and infotainment, displays and controls, as well as advanced driver assist systems and value. For the 2024 awards, 25 vehicles were evaluated, with other winners including the Buick Envista Avenir, Chevy Blazer EV, Hyundai Kona, Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia EV9, Lincoln Nautilus, Mercedes-Benz GLC 300, Ram 1500 Tungsten, and the Toyota Grand Highlander. The 2024 Wards 10 Best Interiors & UX awards ceremony will be held on June 6, 2024 during the AutoTech: Detroit Conference, (June 4-6, 2024) at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, MI.

Atlas Cross Sport boasts a classic Volkswagen interior-clean and functional, with a premium feel. While the refreshed model maintains the same underpinnings of the successful outgoing models, the spacious interior receives a major upgrade for the 2024 model year. Premium materials are adopted throughout, including a leatherette-trimmed soft-touch dash and center console. Front-row door trim and décor flow seamlessly into the dash panel, creating an upscale cockpit; the door treatment is also mirrored in the second row. Available ambient lighting with 30 color choices pairs with innovative backlit dash décor featuring the model name to elevate the new design.

Despite its shorter stance and raked rear-end, the Atlas Cross Sport boasts generous interior space for five adults and cargo. Headroom is 39.4/37.8 inches (first/second rows) and legroom is 41.7/40.4 inches, respectively, for all trim levels. The Atlas Cross Sport offers a cavernous 112 cu-ft of total passenger volume. Standard rear bench seating offers a 60/40 split, with a 14-degree backrest recline function. Atlas Cross Sport has a maximum cargo volume of 77.6 cu-ft behind the front-row seats when the rear seats are folded down, and 40.3 cu-ft when all seats are up.

Seats are finished in premium materials, no matter the trim line. Leatherette seating surfaces come standard with heated and ventilated front seats, a 10-way power adjustable driver's seat, a height-adjustable passenger seat, and a second-row middle armrest with integrated cup holders. SEL models add a three-profile driver's-seat memory function and an eight-way power passenger seat. SEL models feature standard leather seating surfaces with available contrast stitching and heated outboard seats for the second row. Top-of-range SEL Premium R-Line models feature quilted leather seats with a diamond pattern.

Atlas Cross Sport makes comfort and convenience for drivers and passengers a priority. The center console is redesigned with a storage cubby underneath, and all models now come standard with two-zone Climatronic® automatic climate control, heated steering wheel with shift paddles, and Voice Control, in addition to five-door KESSY® keyless access on front doors and push-button start. SE w/Technology trim levels add remote start and a rear sunshade. SEL Premium R-Line models include an R-Line logo on the MIB3 start screen, as well as an R-Line steering wheel clip and stainless steel pedal caps.

Enhanced technology in the refreshed Atlas Cross Sport offers a more connected experience. A 12-inch floating infotainment display is an elegant focal point in the redesigned cockpit. Connecting devices is easier than ever with standard wireless App-Connect, wireless charging, and four USB-C ports (six available). All USB-C ports except the rearview mirror port feature 45-watt fast charging.

The advanced Volkswagen Digital Cockpit system, standard on all Atlas models, presents drivers with a fully digital instrument cluster. For model year 2024, all models now receive the 10.25-inch fully configurable Digital Cockpit Pro with up to four views-including full-screen navigation for equipped models-and numerous viewing options, including car status, navigation, driving data, phone information, driver assistance features, and more. Models equipped with native navigation are able to display a full screen map in the digital cluster and simultaneously on the center display.

Volkswagen's IQ.DRIVE advanced driver assistance technology features hands-on semi-automated capability. On the highway, IQ.DRIVE features lane centering and a capacitive steering wheel to make driving easier. Around town, IQ.DRIVE alerts you to surprise obstacles in front of you, and keeps an eye around you to help make driving safer.

The IQ.DRIVE system is standard on all trims for model year 2024. The system utilizes front and rear radar, a front camera and several ultrasound sensors to collect data from the surrounding area, enabling Travel Assist (semi-automated driving assistance); Front Assist (Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring); Active Side Assist (Blind Spot Monitor); Rear Traffic Alert; Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Stop & Go; Lane Assist (Lane Keeping System); and Emergency Assist (semi-automated vehicle assistance in a medical emergency).

The Atlas Cross Sport has a starting MSRP of $36,985 for the SE FWD and $38,885 for the SE AWD. Destination for all Atlas Cross Sport models is $1,425.
