Statement from DGA on VP Harris Selecting Governor Tim Walz as Her Running Mate

DGA Vice Chair Laura Kelly issued the following statement on Vice President Kamala Harris selecting DGA Chair Gov. Tim Walz to be her running mate:

"The DGA is proud to congratulate both Vice President Kamala Harris and our Chair, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz on his selection as the Vice Presidential nominee. As a teacher, veteran, and elected leader, Governor Walz brings to the ticket a dedication to public service and a record of winning tough races and improving lives that makes him exceptionally prepared to help Vice President Harris win and deliver for the American people.

"Governor Walz has shown the country the power of spending political capital rather than banking it, leading the 'Minnesota Miracle' that enshrined reproductive freedom into state law, expanded voting rights, ensured universal free school meals, is tackling gun violence, combatting climate change, and growing the economy for the middle class. The Harris-Walz ticket will be a powerful contrast to the dysfunction of the Republican party and we're excited to work with them to defeat Donald Trump and JD Vance this November."

As DGA Chair, Gov. Walz was a tireless advocate for electing more Democratic governors across the country and held Republicans accountable for their failed and "weird" agenda, all while helping the organization shatter fundraising records. The DGA invested nearly $10 million in 2022 to help reelect Gov. Walz.
