Traffic Advisory: Intermittent Lane Closures on St. Roch Avenue at North Villere Street

NEW ORLEANS - The City of New Orleans today announced that Department of Public Works (DPW) construction contractor, Command Construction Industries, LLC, began utility upgrades on North Villere Street that will require temporary lane closures on St. Roch Avenue at North Villere Street through Friday, Jan. 19, 2024. During this time, the parking lane will be closed, and vehicle traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction.

Public safety is our top priority; signage and traffic control measures, such as barrels and fencing, will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians. DPW asks that residents please adhere to 'no parking' signage on the streets. Vehicles parked in these zones will be ticketed and towed. This work is expected to be completed by the end of the day on Friday, Jan. 19.

This temporary disruption of services is part of the $18.5 millionSt. Roch Drainage Upgrades joint infrastructure project with DPW and the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO).

Once complete, residents will experience an overall improved quality of life, as the project will improve subsurface drainage capacity between local streets and trunk lines and install green infrastructure, such as retention/detention basins and bioswales. This work is part of the FEMA-funded Hazard Mitigation Grant Program's (HMGP) Leveraged Gray/Green Infrastructure projects and is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2024.
