NMU Music Presents Two Concerts Next Week

Northern Michigan University's Music Department will present two concerts next week in Reynolds Recital Hall. The symphonic band and wind ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, and the annual NMU orchestra children's concert will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28. Admission is free for both events.

The symphonic band and wind ensemble's concert, under the direction of Director of Bands Stephen Grugin, will feature songs like Percy Grainger's "Lincolnshire Posey" and Eric Whitacre's "Noisy Wheels of Joy."

The NMU orchestra's family-friendly event will be performed under the direction of Northern's university orchestra director, Barbara Rhyneer. Catering to a youthful, adventurous music taste, the orchestra will feature single-movement selections such as Gustav Holst's "Mars, from the Planets," and Hans Zimmer's "Pirates of the Caribbean," demonstrating the various sections and instruments within the orchestra.
