The MOEA and domestic authorities of Taiwan join Global CAPE to facilitate cross-border cooperation

To enhance the protection of personal data, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, together with domestic authorities that are in charge of enforcing Data Protection and Privacy Laws and that have the power to conduct investigations and pursue enforcement proceedings, jointly submitted its application to join Global CAPE at the end of 2023. In March 2024, a notification stating approval of the application was received from Global CAPE's administrator.

Joining Global CAPE will facilitate Taiwan's collaboration with international partners, including the United States, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, South Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, Mexico, the Dubai International Financial Center, and Bermuda, on cross-border enforcement related to privacy complaints, data protection, data sharing, and professional exchanges. Such collaboration will enhance the protection of information privacy and align with international legal standards, thereby fostering cross-border digital trade, establishing a trustworthy environment for the flow of cross-border data for our industries, and boosting Taiwan's digital economy.
