University of Saint Mary Provost Appointed to CGSC Board of Visitors

(Leavenworth, Kan.) - University of Saint Mary Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Michelle Metzinger has been named to the Command and General Staff College Board of Visitors (BoV).
Dr. Metzinger joins five additional distinguished educators with diverse professional experience, under direction of the BoV chair, retired Major General "Razz" Waff. Their service on the CGSC BoV is a three-year term, certified annually with potential for reappointment.
Dr. Metzinger, along with the other board members, will provide expert and continuous advice on ways to improve the CGSC educational program, especially with regard to is master's degree programs and the maintenance of regional academic accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

The CGSC BoV, often referred to as the CGSC Advisory Committee, is a subcommittee of the Army Education Advisory Committee (AEAC) chartered by the Secretary of the Army, Christine Wormuth.
BoV members meet annually at Fort Leavenworth to examine the academic operations of CGSC. This year's agenda included an overview briefing from the CGSC Dean of Academics, updates on CGSC operations, curricula, and educational initiatives, briefing and discussion on current challenges within the CGSC and presentation of other information appropriate to the board's interests.
Findings and recommendations resulting from BoV meetings are transmitted to the AEAC, which submits a formal report to the Secretary of the Army and the CGSC Commandant, Lieutenant General Milford Beagle.
Dr. Metzinger's nomination and appointment to the BoV required a significant vetting and approval process; through the Assistant Secretary of the Army Manpower and Reserve Affairs and Secretary of the Army, for approval by the Secretary of Defense with Presidential endorsement.
A seasoned peer reviewer with over 15 years of experience for the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the Institutional Actions Committee, Dr. Metzinger brings a local higher education perspective. Additionally, she offers significant experience in curriculum, assessment, faculty development and accreditation best practices to the BoV.
