Hispanic Heritage Month Q&A: Pablo Hidalgo

Riverside, Calif. (Oct. 2, 2023) In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we are highlighting staff and faculty members who are a pivotal part of California Baptist University and embody what it means to Live Your Purpose every day.

Pablo Hidalgo started at CBU over a year ago, and, since his arrival, he is making a big impact with students. He was recently promoted to the assistant director for industry partnerships at the Career Center where he manages relationships with reputable companies to hire CBU students for full time and internship work opportunities.

We talked with Pablo on how his Hispanic culture impacts his purpose and how he lives that out every day.

What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?

It's a time to remember and reflect on my family's roots. Not just to celebrate my Costa Rican culture but also to celebrate the impact Costa Rican people have made here in the United States.

Why is it important that we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month?

The word "contribution" comes to mind. Hispanic Heritage Month allows us to recognize how all these people groups and cultures have made an impact in our communities and everyday life.

Can you share a bit about your own cultural identity?

I am Costa Rican through and through. Our phrase "pura vida," translated "pure life," is a recognition of being present in the day-to-day and in the now. That's something I try to carry with me. Food, sports and family are also all tied together by my cultural identity.

What role does your faith play in celebrating cultural heritage?

Faith in Hispanic cultures is huge. I come from a family of faith, which is embedded into our everyday life, decision making and how we treat others.

Who has served as an inspiration to you?

My grandfather Eric Molina who played soccer professionally in Costa Rica and for the Costa Rican national team. His dedication to his teammates and country, integrity in how he treated others and his ability to be present for his family are what truly inspired me to be the man I am today.

How do you live your purpose in your role at CBU?

I live my purpose by serving others. My heart's purpose has always been the desire to see others succeed. At the Career Center I see that every day.
