Main Line Health receives Drexel LeBow Analytics 50 Honor

Main Line Health recently received the Drexel LeBow Analytics 50 award presented by LeBow's Center for Business Analytics that recognizes national excellence in organizations pursuing data-driven solutions. The award has honored companies for using analytics to improve decision making, combat crime, help populations in poverty, enhance athletic performance and improve the carbon footprint of their organizations - among many other achievements. The COVID-19 pandemic presented many challenges but Main Line Health seized the opportunity to adopt data literacy and data fluency on a company-wide basis.

The coronavirus pandemic introduced a need to be able to classify and evaluate the COVID patient population through multiple perspectives. This included regional surveillance, planning through utilization of predictive models, and monitoring trends within the health system. Main Line Health (MLH) rapidly developed a COVID dashboard for the command center to provide real-time information to support decision making.

The honorees were selected by a panel of researchers and practitioners who judged nominations based on the complexity of the business challenges they faced, the analytics solutions implemented and the solutions' business impact on the organization. With a goal of amplifying analytics expertise throughout the nation, we join these companies, nonprofits and government agencies in celebrating the impact they've made within their industries' said Diana Jones, Director, Center for Business Analytics from Drexel University.

Main Line Health implemented a custom-built operational COVID dashboard that allowed for an 'at a glance' view to assist in decision making throughout the pandemic's evolution. The dashboard quickly evolved into a real-time view of each hospital's census to evaluate capacity across the health system and the setup/implementation of surge plans. 'I am incredibly proud of our team for their commitment to improve our hospital system through technology and harness our data to pivot, adapt and respond quickly. Our dashboard is a platform we use daily by our leadership and share with our employees in our nightly communications. This award captures our hard work and dedication to use technology to support the hospital's decision making process throughout COVID-19' said William Nieczpiel, System Director of Business Intelligence, Analytics and Reporting at Main Line Health.
