Dr Jorge Castiñeira: new dean of Esade Law School

Tuesday, September 12, 2023. Dr Jorge Castiñeira, professor at Esade, has been appointed the new dean of Esade Law School with immediate effect following the completion of the mandate of the previous dean, Dr Eduardo Berché, as stipulated in the Esade Foundation by-laws. Jorge Castiñeira brings his academic experience as a full professor in the Department of Law and his teaching and research track record in the school, particularly his previous work as academic director of the BA in Law and the joint degrees in BBA & Law, and Law & Global Governance, Economics and Legal Order.

Amongst his priorities during his mandate, the new dean will continue to consolidate the position of Esade Law School as a benchmark for educational excellence in law and the importance and impact of its research into corporate and economic law, while addressing the market's new needs and challenges, including the onset of AI and the new technologies affecting jobs in the legal profession. To do so, he will prioritize the consolidation of undergraduate and postgraduate programs aimed at solving present-day challenges and problems, the encouragement of interdisciplinarity and links with the professional sphere, and also the excellence of teaching staff, teaching methodologies adapted to market and teaching needs, and the promotion of a unique, personalized educational experience, based on practical methodology and experiential learning.

Over the last ten years with Eduardo Berché as dean of Esade Law School, truly significant achievements have been made including the launch of new programs such as the Joint Degree in Law + Global Governance, Economics & Legal Order and the Bachelor's Degree in Global Governance, Economics & Legal Order - in which 80% of students are international. This international presence has also benefited by the increase in exchange agreements with 120 prestigious schools of law, economics, political science and international relations around the world, including Columbia, Stanford, Cornell University (USA) and Peking University Law School (Beijing). Particularly noteworthy is the consolidation of the Máster de Acceso a la Abogacía (MUA) at Esade Law School, with new specializations adapted to market requirements, such as the Master in Compliance and Economic Criminal Law.
