OAS Electoral Mission in the Dominican Republic welcomes agreement to implement recommendation on electoral financing

The Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) of the Organization of American States (OAS) for the elections in the Dominican Republic welcomes the agreement reached between the Executive Branch and the Central Electoral Board (JCE) that will allow the implementation of the recommendation made by the EOM deployed for the municipal elections on February 18 in itsPreliminary Report:"Exploring institutional mechanisms that will allow political organizations to access public funds for the upcoming presidential and legislative campaigns, within a framework of transparency and equity, considering the opinion expressed by the Central Electoral Board."

The EOM, which was informed by the JCE that this agreement will be implemented in the coming days, welcomes the fact that a solution to this issue has been achieved, allowing the electoral body to fulfill its functions and allocate the funds corresponding to an election year.

Finally, the OAS Mission reports that, within the framework of a request made by opposition political actors, the OAS/EOM will receive next week a delegation from the parties Liberación Dominicana (PLD), Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) y Partido Revolucionario Dominicano (PRD) to discuss the ongoing electoral process.
