Johnson’s ALERT Parity Act and Promoting United States Wireless Leadership Act Pass House Energy and Commerce Committee

Yesterday, two pieces of legislation authored by Rep. Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) passed the House Energy and Commerce Committee: the ALERT Parity Act and the Promoting United States Wireless Leadership Act. Rep. Johnson released the below statement following the committee's passage of his legislation:

"I'm grateful the full House Energy and Commerce Committee passed both my ALERT Parity Act and the Promoting United States Wireless Leadership Act," said Johnson.I look forward to these two critical pieces of legislation coming to the House floor for a vote. The ALERT Parity Act would ensure every American, regardless of their zip code, would be able to receive critical emergency alerts and make 911 calls. This lifesaving legislation would enable access to emergency services for areas that would otherwise not have access to cellular services - especially in rural areas like Eastern Ohio where I represent. I am proud to have worked with Rep. Kim Schrier on this bill."

Johnson added: "As a co-chair of the Congressional 5G and Beyond Caucus, I am proud that the Promoting United States Wireless Leadership Act, sponsored by all the caucus co-chairs, passed the committee as well. It is imperative that the United States continues to lead in 5G and wireless technology innovation. If we do not, we risk China out-innovating and out-competing us. This is not just an issue of global competitiveness, but also a matter of national security. Our bill will continue to cultivate American wireless technology innovation, and it is imperative that the bipartisan Promoting United States Wireless Leadership Act comes to the House floor for a vote in the near future."
