City Seeking Food Truck Vendors

The City of Poughkeepsie is seeking food truck vendors interested in operating at several city-owned locations, including Spratt and Pulaski pools and places along Market Street.

The city is issuing a Request for Proposal to complement the other amenities at the parks and, as the weather gets warmer, also wants to offer residents and visitors alike a chance to purchase lunch or early dinner from local food trucks at several spots off Market Street on Fridays.

The city will designate two other locations on Civic Center Plaza for food truck service as well as one around Hulme Park for the distinction.

"We think food trucks at our parks with pools make abundant sense. People spend hours there at a time, and having food items available will definitely enhance the experience for those enjoying our parks," said Mayor Yvonne Flowers. "We are looking to create a family-friendly atmosphere at our parks. They are our outdoor community hubs, and the city has demonstrated its commitment by making major investments in them over the last few years."

The city is in the process of hiring lifeguards and other staffers and intends to open Spratt and Pulaski pools early this summer. Last year, Pulalski pool was closed for construction, and this year the city will unveil the new Pulaski pool house.

Hudson Park, located between Talmadge and Washington Streets near the Walkway Over the Hudson, also features soccer pitches, pickle ball and tennis courts.

Spratt Park, located along Wilbur Boulevard, features a pool, basketball court, four baseball fields, a pickle ball court, a dog park, and the McCann Memorial Golf Course.

Mayor Flowers said the food truck designations along Market Street are intended to serve workers in the downtown area as well as other residents and visitors to the city. They also will provide another business opportunity for food truck vendors in the area.

City officials are strongly encouraging applicants to incorporate healthy and diverse food items on their menu list, including salads, fresh fruit, yogurt, water, and fruit juices. Menu items may include, but are not limited to, hamburgers, hot dogs, Central American food including empanadas, chicken, gyros, chips, soft drinks, candy, breakfast items, sandwiches, and other food items concessionaires believe to be appropriate.

Questions about the Request for Proposals must be sent by May 13, by 4 p.m. to [email protected].

Responses to the Request for Proposal must arrive no later than 3 p.m. May 21, 2024, to the City Chamberlain, located on the 1st floor of City Hall, 62 Civic Center Plaza, Poughkeepsie, New York 12601.
